Business Counselor Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Director of Strategy, the Business Counselor will provide one-on-one consulting to pre-start, startup and existing businesses assisting them to create business plans, secure financing and address other business problems and issues. Specific responsibilities include:
Provide individual consulting to individuals entrepreneurs and business owners to evaluate the feasibility of business concepts, prepare business plans, evaluate business problems and expansion opportunities, and formulate plans to improve existing businesses including marketing, financial management, merchandising, operations, and other issues.
Assist program participants to prepare and package loan and grant applications to the private, non-profit and government business finance programs.
Evaluate program participants’ need for specialized technical assistance needs and work with the Industry Specialist to provide or make appropriate referrals for specialized assistance.
Develop effective relationship with other business association, small business technical assistance providers and business lenders.
Work with local program partners to market the Access to Equity program and advise them on the screening and assessment of potential clients.
Prepare monthly reports on client status and activities. Maintain and monitor accurate records on clients, program activities and business progress and outcomes.
Work cooperatively with other Access to Equity team members to provide services that are informed, appropriate, comprehensive and effective in assisting clients to start, stabilize and/or expand their businesses.
Participate in ongoing program development, improvement and evaluation efforts.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Experience
BA degree in business management, economics, or a related field.
Minimum of two years prior experience in business management, business lending or business consulting experience.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Proficiency with computers including word processing, spreadsheets and database program.
Commitment to organization's mission.
Ability to work on a team as well as independently.
High level of integrity, responsiveness and professionalism.
Bi-lingual ability in Vietnamese-English is desirable but not essential
Salary Range: $30,000 to $40,000 plus benefits
