This entire naming debate is ridiculous and it's about time it came to an end.
The City Council is finally going to put this matter where it belongs now, which is in the hands of the voters. Barry Hung Do and his group of ridiculously stubborn protesters often claim that how the decision to name that part of Story Road was undemocratic. Now that they get their wish, they're probably not going to like the result. They have dragged our community into their nonsense long enough, and it's time to stop the bleeding. I rarely ever say this, but I'm glad we lose on this issue. We need to learn the harsh lesson that bully tactics do not work. Barry Do and his group thought that they could bulldoze their way into the decision making process.
The one thing I will say is that this matter should only be asked to voters in District 7. This is a very localized matter and putting this up for a vote for the entire city is nonsense. The people who live and reside in the area should be the ones who make the decision about this area, which runs about a mile, not the entire city, which spans over 100 square miles and over 1 million people.
