So I just came back from a meeting of people who are trying to organize themselves to oppose the pro-Little Saigon group. I went out of curiosity, and left in disappointment. What a waste of time. It was nothing more than a group of Madison's friends who are trying to rally the yuppies around her. I tried to talk to the organizer about it, but obviously, that was also a waste of time.
This issue isn't about Madison, it SHOULD NOT be about Madison. This is about our community, and right now, we're dying. We are killing ourselves in this nonsense, and the best solution to this entire thing is not to name the street at all. If we name it Little Saigon, there will be a lot of non-Vietnamese voters who will be disgusted with the entire situation. Vice-Mayor Cortese doesn't believe that the anger will last long against city hall, but I think it will last against the Vietnamese American community. If we keep the name Saigon Business District, the fucking protestors will riot. What an absolutely ridiculous situation.
Drop the name. It was meant to be a gift. We didn't want it, and instead of being gracious, we acted like a bunch of spoiled children who are throwing a tantrum because we aren't getting our way. We don't deserve it.
